Benchmark Pinto Wins Summit Super Series Drag Race

The Benchmark sponsored 1971 Pinto entered the Summit Super Series 7.5 index race on April 28 held at the Palm Beach International Raceway. In the end, though the competition was fierce, Benchmark’s car took the whole competition, hitting the finish line first and securing the win for Team Benchmark.

The Benchmark Pinto, which runs on eco-friendly E85 ethanol fuel, took the lead in the final round as driver Richard Bowers had a .019 to .073 reaction time advantage right off the starting line. Though the race remained tight, the bright yellow Benchmark Pinto ran a 7.51 second pass on the 7.50 index, winning in the end. This victory marked the second consecutive 7.50 index class win for Team Benchmark, and it was also our first of 2012.

The beautiful Palm Beach International Raceway boasts several tracks where they host a variety of high-end national events. Owned and operated by a team of professional racers and car collectors, the venue was constructed just west of Jupiter, Florida, in 1964. The facility features a 2.043-mile road course, a quarter-mile drag strip and a .8-mile go-kart track.
